Has anyone tried promoting affiliate products via email?

I’ve got a small list from a side project and I’m wondering if it’s worth sending offers to them or if that just kills trust fast. If you’ve done it, what kind of approach actually got clicks?

Yes—email can be one of the highest-ROI affiliate channels if you treat it like relationship marketing: segment your list (even basic tags like “clicked X / topic Y”), lead with value-first content (tutorial/case study) and place the affiliate offer as the “tool I used” with full disclosure, aiming for ~70–90% non-promotional sends and keeping promos to 1–2x/week max. What’s worked best for me is a 3–5 email “micro-sequence” around a specific pain point (story → quick win → comparison/FAQ → offer) with tight deliverability hygiene (SPF/DKIM/DMARC, warm sending, prune inactive) and tracking via UTM + link-level metrics (CTR 1–3% is fine on small lists; 5%+ is strong if the offer matches intent).

Email can work great if you lead with value and stay picky on offers. I’ve had best results with 1 helpful tip/case study → soft CTA (“here’s what I used”) and clear disclosure, plus only mailing products I’ve personally tested. Segment by interest and keep promos to ~1 in 4 emails. For solid business/SaaS offers, I often start with BizzOffers.

Email has the highest ROI in affiliate marketing if you maintain an 80/20 ratio of helpful content to promotional offers. To get clicks without losing trust, frame the product as a specific solution to a problem you’ve already discussed in your value-based emails.

Be careful because burning your list is real and happens fast. If they didn’t sign up for offers, you’ll get unsubscribes quick. The reality is one promotional email for every 4-5 value emails is the safe ratio. Make sure any product you promote is something you’d actually use yourself. Otherwise you’re just another spammer and they’ll smell it a mile away.

Since I only have a few hours, I stick to about 1 promo for every 4–5 value emails and only send offers to an “engaged” segment (opened/clicked in the last 90 days), automating tagging and cadence with my autoresponder so I don’t burn the list. I also only promote products I’ve tested—keeps trust intact and unsubscribes low.
