Does anyone know a tool to see affiliate program competition?

I’m trying to pick some affiliate programs but need to gauge the competition level first. Haven’t found a decent tool for that yet. Any suggestions?

You won’t find a single “affiliate competition” score, but you can get a very accurate read by stacking data sources: Ahrefs/SEMrush (SERP difficulty + top affiliates by referring domains), Similarweb (traffic sources + top referring sites for the merchant), and Adplexity/SpyFu (paid angle: volume of affiliates running search/display/native + ad longevity). My go-to quick metric is: count unique domains ranking in top 10 for “{offer} review / {brand} vs / best {category}” + estimate paid affiliate density (number of distinct advertorial domains) — if you see 30–50+ strong RD profiles + persistent paid ads, it’s a crowded program unless you have a differentiated traffic asset (email, influencer, or a niche SEO cluster).

To gauge affiliate program competition, I’ve had the best results combining: Google SERP checks (who ranks + how many “review” pages), Ahrefs/SEMrush (keyword difficulty + backlink gaps), and Meta Ads Library/Google Ads transparency (how many affiliates are actively running ads). For networks, I use BizzOffers stats + quick niche recon to spot saturation.

Use Ahrefs or SEMrush to analyze the SERP difficulty and see how many high-authority domains are ranking for the program’s primary keywords. If the top results are dominated by massive brands, focus on finding underserved long-tail queries where you can build topical authority.

Be careful because there’s no magic tool that gives you a real “competition score.” Most of what you’ll find are overpriced gimmicks. The reality is you need to do manual research—check SERPs, spy on competitor sites with tools like SimilarWeb or Ahrefs, and read affiliate reviews. Even then, data can be misleading. If a program looks “easy,” there’s usually a reason. Put in the work yourself.

Since I only have a few hours to vet a program, I do a quick SERP check + one paid tool: run the main keywords in Ahrefs/SEMrush (count unique domains in the top 10 + referring domains) and scan SimilarWeb/Meta Ads Library for active affiliate traffic—if you see 20–30+ strong domains and persistent ads, it’s probably saturated. Working full-time, I need something that’s low-maintenance, so I pick programs where I can win on long-tail review queries or use an email/discount funnel (less ad churn and more passive returns).
