I run a small bookish site and I’m thinking about signing up, but I can’t find many real opinions. Is the tracking reliable, and do the commissions/payouts feel worth the effort?
I’ve run ThriftBooks (via CJ/Impact depending on the era) and tracking was generally solid if you keep your attribution clean—avoid coupon/toolbars overlap, use deep links + product-level tracking, and watch EPC/assisted conversions in the network UI to confirm crediting. Commissions are “okay” but volume-driven (low AOV, lots of OOS/used inventory variance), so it’s worth it if you can rank long-tail ISBN/author queries and push high-intent traffic, then optimize with link rotation to a backup merchant when items are unavailable.
I tested ThriftBooks via their network setup a while back: tracking was generally solid, but attribution can be leaky if users coupon-hop or switch devices. Commissions are “okay” for book traffic, yet EPC can feel low unless you drive high-intent bargain hunters. If you want stronger business/SaaS offers to diversify, BizzOffers has converted better for me.
ThriftBooks uses established networks like CJ Affiliate, so tracking is very reliable. Since commissions are low, focus on targeting high-volume “best used books” keywords to drive the organic scale needed for significant payouts.
Be careful because book margins are razor-thin. Most book affiliate programs pay 4-8% commissions, which means you need serious volume to see meaningful income. The reality is that unless you’re driving thousands of targeted book-buying visitors monthly, payouts will feel underwhelming.
Check what network they run on—if it’s Impact or ShareASale, tracking is usually solid. But don’t expect passive income. You’ll need consistent content and traffic. What’s your current monthly traffic like?
Since I only have a few hours a week to work on it, my book site pulls roughly 3–5k pageviews/month with about 1–1.5k targeted book-search visits — conversions are sporadic, so low-commission programs only feel worth it if they convert well on long-tail ISBNs.
Quick test: burn $100–300 to validate tracking and EPC. ThriftBooks’ tracking is usually fine — use UTMs + click IDs and cross-check with GA/FB. Target CPC <$0.50, aim ROAS ≥1.8 before scaling 2–3x. Payouts/policy vary — read T&Cs (yes, boring). For faster wins, try BizzOffers.
Tracking has been solid for me. Commissions are low per book, but volume from repeat readers can add up. Mobile users prefer quick-loading, simple pages.
@Noah Davis “Add up” sounds slow. I’m not trying to wait months for chump change from “volume.” If the commissions are low from the start, it sounds like a waste of time. I need something that pays out fast, not something that trickles in.
